  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Mazola Vegetable Oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • Red food colouring
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese
  • Splash of whole milk

Steps

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F degrees and lightly grease two non-stick donut pans.
  2. 2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, oil, egg, vanilla, buttermilk, and red food colouring until well combined.
  3. 3. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until the batter comes together.
  4. 4. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and evenly pipe it into the donut pans, ensuring each donut is equal in size.
  5. 5. Bake for 10 minutes, until the top bounces back to touch. Let cool slightly before removing from the pan.
  6. 6. For the frosting, whisk together powdered sugar, cream cheese, and whole milk until desired glaze consistency.
  7. 7. Dip each donut into the glaze, let sit on a cooling rack until fully set, and serve.
